2027 Agronomy Internship

Cedar Rapids Country Club is seeking motivated individuals to join our Golf Course Maintenance team for the 2027 season. Our agronomy internship is designed for students at every experience level. Whether this is your first season on a golf course or you already have several years of experience, we will tailor the internship to your abilities, interests, and career goals.

Our program focuses on building people up and preparing interns for successful careers in the golf course industry. Interns will work closely with the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendents while gaining hands-on experience throughout the entire operation.

Internship Experience

Interns will be exposed to a wide range of agronomic and golf course maintenance practices, including:

• Daily golf course setup
• Mowing greens, tees, fairways, and other playing surfaces
• Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and repair
• Fertilizer and plant-protectant applications
• Hand-watering and moisture management
• Cultural practices such as aerification, topdressing, and verticutting
• Bunker maintenance and detail work
• Equipment operation and basic maintenance
• Tournament preparation
• Golf course projects and improvements

Interns will also be included as members of our management team. They will participate in weekly management meetings and gain exposure to planning, scheduling, staff leadership, budgeting, agronomic decision-making, and the coordination required to operate a high-level private golf facility. Our goal is to provide an understanding of the entire operation, not simply the day-to-day tasks.

Beginning in August 2027, Cedar Rapids Country Club will begin construction of a new practice facility. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in and observe the early stages of construction, gaining valuable experience with site preparation, drainage, grading, irrigation, and turf establishment.

For students interested in extending their experience beyond the summer, fall opportunities are also available.

We are looking for individuals who:

• Have an interest in golf course management, turfgrass science, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field
• Are dependable and willing to learn
• Enjoy working outdoors as part of a team
• Take pride in producing high-quality work
• Want to develop both technical and leadership skills
• Previous golf course experience is welcomed but not required. We are committed to developing interns at all skill levels.
