About this role:
Working at the U.S. Women's Open Championship provids hands-on experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Successful candidates will bring a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed. The ability to adapt, stay organized, and work effectively as part of a team is essential to the championship's success. Interns will support the execution of a major championship and gain exposure to a variety of areas, including operations, parking and transportation, volunteer management, community relations, and other championship-related functions. Specific assignments will be determined after the hiring process, based on the intern(s) interests and championship needs. This role includes a combination of office and outdoor work. Interns should be prepared to perform physical tasks (lifting 50+ pounds) and to stand, walk, and work for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, sun, and rain. Interns can expect to work at least 40 hours per week, with hours gradually increasing to 60-80+ hours leading up to and during the championship, including weekends and holidays. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support championship management.
What you'll do:
- Support the planning, setup, operation, and breakdown of championship facilities, including hospitality venues, volunteer areas, office spaces, media operations, and vendor compounds.
- Coordinate and distribute championship equipment, supplies, credentials, and materials while helping maintain an organized and efficient championship office.
- Serve as a liaison for vendors, volunteers, and USGA staff, assisting with logistics, communications, and overall championship execution.
- Assist with volunteer program operations, including scheduling, training, credential distribution, and volunteer initiatives.
- Coordinate with local agencies and vendors to assist in the execution of the Public Safety, Parking, and Transportation plans for the championship
- Respond to inquiries before, during, and after the championship via phone, email, and in-person interactions, providing timely, professional, and customer-friendly support.
- Provide administrative support to USGA staff through communications, mailings, reporting, office organization, and coordination of staff services, including meals, laundry, and other logistical needs.
- Help lead and mentor short-term and mid-term interns by organizing priorities, sharing knowledge, and supporting day-to-day execution.
- Assist with championship marketing and community engagement efforts, including local events, member engagement activities, and promotional initiatives.
- Complete required safety trainings, including a potential OSHA 10-Hour Safety Course, and perform other duties as assigned in support of championship management.
Where you'll be:
- This internship is based at Inverness Club in Toledo, OH. Housing will be provided for the duration of the position.
- Onboarding will take place at the USGA's campus in Pinehurst, NC for approximately once week. Timing will be confirmed at the time of offer.
Pay: $16.00/hr., subject to applicable overtime laws.
