Brooks Internship Program:
Brooks Running hosts summer internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will join a cohort of interns at Brooks and embark on a summer of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.

This Opportunity:
The AI and Data Team is seeking a graduate intern to work at our Seattle HQ offices. This position will work closely with the Data and AI team, which is responsible for the management of the data platform and advancing data and AI work at Brooks. The team also works closely with cross functional teams including functional units like Run Research Lab, Sales, Marketing, and the Product Innovation teams.
Through this opportunity you will help advance analytical rigor, systems thinking, and hands-on experience in data pipelines, algorithms, and model development to create and directly accelerate high-impact AI and data initiatives. You will gain exposure to the retail and wellness industry by working with product designers, researchers, sales and marketing team members while demonstrating a Runner First mindset. You will research and provide recommendations on developing scalable technical solutions that utilize data and AI. You will shadow and work under the mentorship of the Senior Director, AI, Data and Technology Innovation and complete work with the goal of advancing high impact AI and data initiatives.
Your Impact (Responsibilities):
- Collaborate and work across the various business units at brooks to assess, review and identify opportunities for the application of data and AI within brooks
- Follow the AI products development lifecycle to scope the opportunity, frame the approach, identify user personas, define products requirements, system requirements, goals of the initiative, build a prototype and validate the proposed solution
- Leverage and contribute to the development of products -technology documentation
- Participate in customer conversations and confirm that the solution development confirms the safe and responsible usage of data and AI at Brooks
- Undertake process mapping, data analysis and write clean and simple code to undertake basic data analysis that covers data science best practices and design patterns
- Demonstrate a continuous sense of curiosity to learn and share opinions about business opportunities
- Leverage and contribute to the development of Gen AI and AI powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies
- Undertake code reviews and contribute to technical discussions
- Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, deployment and troubleshooting of code fixes and bugs
- Work with teammates to integrate your knowledge of innovative practices to develop solutions to meet business objectives.
- Create tools to visualize and communicate technical/complicated information to non-technical audiences.
- Assist in defining and developing product specs for the development of pipelines and algorithms to build product prototypes using data and AI.
- Apply critical thinking skills and your ability to influence to gain trust and innovate current department programs/processes.
- Translate theory and your learnings and apply to innovate/optimize/automate Brooks business.
- Help to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution.
- Play a key role on exploratory projects by using your business/computer science/science background to inform project design and decisions.
- Interpret and summarize new policy proposals, laws and regulations, and analyze potential impacts to Brooks.
- Analyze and report on the evolution of proposed rules or regulations to keep Brooks informed on how developments may impact on the business and its compliance obligations.
- Report on key developments in regulatory landscape as they could impact on the development of Brook’s business, customers and long-term strategy.
- Collaborate with project/program managers/web developers/systems analysts, etc. to design and deliver features or initiatives on the department roadmap.
- Prepare recommendations that define and scope the business need for the AI Governance Council based on evolving competitor/environmental/legal/social landscape.
- Include project involvement, exposure, etc.
Project:
- As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your mentor/manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks, to hone-in-on your research, analysis, and recommendations, and to refine your presentations skills.
A high-level project outline for this internship opportunity is as follows:
- As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your mentor/manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks, to hone-in-on your research, analysis, and recommendations, and to refine your presentations skills.
- The intern will partner with the Supply Chain team (e.g., forecasting variability, inventory visibility, or production bottlenecks), Run Research lab (e.g., data can enhance athlete insights, testing efficiency, or research workflows) or the Sales/Marketing teams(e.g., understanding customer demand, territory performance, or order-book trends) to design data pipelines that integrate operational, senior, customer demand, and production capacity data. They will develop and evaluate analytical or machine-learning models to surface patterns, forecast risk, or optimize decisions, while translating business requirements into technical and product specifications.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing Masters in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, Innovation or related STEM fields or a related field
- Previous internship or work experience is preferred0
- Ability to commit to the intern position for three months onsite in Seattle, WA, up to 40 hours a week
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Add any additional systems that may be required to have been exposed to/utilized
- Demonstrated experience with at least one general purpose programming language such as Python, Java, C++
- Demonstrated experience or course work in one or more of the following:
- Data science
- Data Structure implementation
- Basic algorithm development
- Prompt writing and LLMs
- Database systems (SQL)
- Debugging and troubleshooting systems
- AI/ML technologies
- Data visualization tools like Tableau/Power BI
- Basic understanding of products development lifecycle (PDLC)
- Strong organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products
- Must be able to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
