The annual 10-month internship is intended for a recent college graduate interested in hockey operations as a career.
The Brendan Burke Internship is named in honor of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for Miami University’s men’s ice hockey team and was the son of Brian Burke, general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team.
Brendan passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2010. A senior at Miami, he was returning from a visit to Michigan State University’s law school to perform his team video and statistics duties for the RedHawks’ weekend series against Lake Superior State University. Snowy and icy road conditions in Indiana led to a car accident that took Brendan’s life at the age of 21.
Brendan was a political science major and French minor at Miami and an officer with the school’s College Democrats. He is survived by his parents Kerry Burke of Canton, Mass., and Brian Burke and his wife Jennifer of Toronto; sister Katie; brother Patrick Burke; and sisters Molly, Mairin and Fiona “Gracie” Burke.
