Position Summary
The Community Relations Intern will support the Orlando Valkyries’ efforts to build meaningful connections throughout the Central Florida community. Working closely with the Manager of Game Day Operations & Community Relations, this intern will help plan and execute outreach events, school and nonprofit partnerships, player appearances, and donation programs. This role is an excellent fit for a student passionate about community impact, relationship building, and using the platform of professional sports to make a difference.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Events
- Attend and support community events, school visits, youth clinics, and nonprofit partnerships.
- Assist with the setup, breakdown, and logistics for outreach activations and appearances.
- Transport and manage event materials including pop-up tents, signage, tables, and branded merchandise.
- Help coordinate player and staff appearances at community and civic events.
- Serve as a team ambassador, representing the Valkyries brand with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Relationship Management
- Help maintain and grow relationships with local schools, nonprofits, civic organizations, and community partners.
- Assist in responding to donation requests, community inquiries, and partnership outreach.
- Help track and follow up on community commitments, donations, and engagement opportunities.
- Support the development of new outreach initiatives and partnership programs.
Content & Documentation
- Capture photo and video content at community events for use on social media and in internal reporting.
- Maintain organized documentation of community engagements, contacts, and program outcomes.
- Assist in preparing post-event recaps and community impact reports.
- Perform additional community relations and outreach duties as assigned.
Team Culture & Collaboration
- Contribute to a positive and energetic office environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support team-wide initiatives.
- Demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, and a team-first attitude at all times.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Sports Management, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine passion for community engagement and service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license — local travel required.
- Comfort engaging with diverse audiences including children, school officials, and nonprofit leaders.
Education & Experience
- Currently working toward a degree in Communications, Sports Management, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Prior experience in community outreach, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit work is preferred.
- Experience with event logistics or public-facing roles is a plus.
