Background:
Corpus Christi FC is one of the newest professional soccer teams in USL League One. However, we are not new to the city. We are building a club that represents our community and building a team on the field they can be proud. Corpus Christi's family values are reflected within our team and our front office. Corpus Christi FC is offering college credit to prospective college students to get hands-on learning within a professional soccer club. Selected candidates will have the ability to experience different responsibilities on game day, serve as a social media coordinator and perfect their writing abilities. This is an onsite position, and the individual is required to be in Corpus Christi or around the Coastal Bend. The internship is available for the Spring beginning in March and for the Summer season. You must be in Corpus Christi or able to commute to Corpus Christi.
Position Summary
In this position, the individual will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in:
- Assisting the primary media contacts
- Assisting in the creation of digital content to be used by other departments
- Assisting in the storytelling and outbound marketing
- Assist in fielding incoming media inquiries
- Assisting in the operation of the organization's social media accounts
- Working closely with players, coaches, and front-office leadership to raise the profile of the club and its players
Primary Duties
- Assist with communications operations for all home matches, including media credentialing, press box support, game statistics, postgame notes, quotes, and other gameday duties.
- Record and distribute match statistics, rosters, game notes, and reports before, during, and after matches.
- Assist with tracking and maintaining team and individual player statistics, records, and historical data.
- Write match recaps, player features, previews, and other editorial content for club channels.
- Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, pitches, briefs, and other PR materials.
- Support live match coverage across club social media platforms, including real-time updates and fan engagement.
- Assist with the creation, scheduling, and publishing of social media content across club platforms.
- Research media outlets, develop media lists, and assist with media outreach efforts.
- Monitor media coverage and compile coverage recap reports and analytics.
- Provide on-site support for practices, press conferences, media availabilities, community events, and club appearances.
- Participate in weekly Marketing & Communications strategy meetings and contribute creative content ideas and campaign concepts.
- Help execute media days, branded content shoots, and other club events.
- Collaborate with the creative, marketing, and communications teams on storytelling and fan engagement initiatives.
- Support additional communications and gameday operations duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- College student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree preferred; a background in communications, public relations, or another area of study requiring writing skills is strongly desired
- Prior experience in media relations, journalism, or public relations is a plus.
- Multilingual (Spanish preferred) abilities preferred but not required
- Basic knowledge of AP Style is preferred but not required
- Editing and design skills in video, photo or graphic design is a plus but not required
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X
- Must have access to a computer and a reliable internet connection for any out-of-office work
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism within a professional sports environment
- Strong writing and computer skills
- Strong editing and proofreading required
- Ability to work independently and efficiently on a variety of time-sensitive projects
- High degree of integrity and discretion in dealing with sensitive subject matters
- Knowledge of soccer and the USL is preferred
- Able to work well in a cross-functional team environment while maintaining a positive attitude
