The Opportunity

The Ottawa Senators are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented intern to join our Digital Communications team as a Digital Media Commercialization Intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an NHL franchise and become fully engaged in the business of a major league sports team. 

As the Digital Media Commercialization Intern with the Ottawa Senators, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day operation of the Ottawa Senators websites and mobile apps. This role focuses on digital task management, CMS-based updates, structured page management, and maintaining accuracy across digital platforms using league-required tools and internal systems. The intern will assist with game day and practice day functions, commercial pages, link and UTM management, as well as other website and app content while supporting live gameday digital operations.  This is ideal for someone interested in digital platforms, structured content systems, and web/app operations in a professional sports environment. This role focuses on CMS-based website and app operations; no coding or software engineering work is required. 

Term: This is a full-time internship placement from September 2026 – April 2027 (8 months)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with regular updates and maintenance of the website and mobile app using NHL-mandated CMS tools (e.g., Forge). 
  • Update and manage structured site elements including rosters, player bios, front office listings, and organizational information. 
  • Build and maintain page layouts for sponsors, campaigns, and special initiatives within existing templates. 
  • Support app updates related to gameday operations, schedules, and real-time information. 
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of information across all web and app platforms. 
  • Collaborate with demand marketing, corporate partnerships, and communications teams to implement requested updates. 
  • Provide on-site digital updates during home matches as needed. 
  • Assist with basic CMS-related quality assurance and troubleshooting. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications (what we look for)

  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program requiring a placement for credit 
  • Strong communications skills in English, Bilingualism is an asset 
  • Pursuing a degree or diploma in Digital Media, Digital Marketing, UX, Interactive Media, Computer Science, Web Development/Web Design, or a related field. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established workflows and templates. 
  • Comfortable working with structured content and page-based layouts. 
  • Experience using a CMS (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, or similar); enterprise-level CMS experience is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with NHL Forge or similar league-mandated CMS platforms. 
  • Experience working with YinzCam or other mobile app management platforms. 
  • Basic understanding of UI/UX design principles, including layout, hierarchy, and usability. 
  • Basic experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop) or Figma to support minor visual updates within existing templates. 
  • Understanding of UTM linking, deep linking and other analytical tactics.  
  • Experience with copywriting or editing short-form digital content, including headlines, captions, or page descriptions. 
  • Prior experience supporting digital platforms for live sports, entertainment, or events.

What We Offer

This internship offers an annual salary of $37,000, pro-rated for the duration of the term, along with hands-on, real-world experience in the sports industry. Interns receive two weeks of vacation accrued monthly and pro-rated to the length of the internship, as well as paid sick leave. Additional benefits include complimentary parking at the Canadian Tire Centre, access to tickets for select events, a free corporate GoodLife Fitness membership, and an employee discount at the Sens Store. The organization also has an active social committee that hosts multiple events throughout the year, and interns are welcome to attend these social engagements, along with opportunities to volunteer at signature events with the Senators Community Foundation.
