The Valdosta State Athletic Department is accepting applications for multiple graduate assistant positions. Graduate assistants will help promote the Blazers’ 12 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs. Valdosta State University is a member of the highly competitive Gulf South Conference. The Blazers have won ten national championships, including four in football and nine total titles since 2000. Assistantship positions are available in Facilities/Game Operations (3 openings), Marketing/Promotions (1 opening), and Communications (1 opening).

The Athletic Administration Graduate Assistants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees) and will gain experience in a multitude of internal and external operations. These positions offer an exciting opportunity for those passionate about working in a fast-paced, professional environment while pursuing a graduate degree.

The Facilities/Game Operations Graduate Assistant serves a vital role in delivering first-class athletic events and maintaining competition-ready facilities across our department, making this an outstanding opportunity for motivated, organized, and passionate individuals ready to be at the center of game day. This position works alongside athletic administration to manage and supervise athletic facilities and events, overseeing everything from game-day production and communication with officials to venue preparation, vendor coordination, and inventory control. The Graduate Assistant will be heavily involved in football, volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, gaining hands-on experience across multiple sports and venues while playing a critical role in creating an exceptional experience for student-athletes, coaches, and fans. The Marketing/Promotions Graduate Assistant plays an integral role in shaping the Valdosta State Athletics brand, generating revenue, driving fan engagement, and enhancing the student-athlete experience through innovative storytelling and digital strategy. Working alongside the Assistant Athletic Director, this position leads and supports content creation efforts, including photography, graphic design, and video production, while directing gameday creative execution and coordinating in-game entertainment and promotions for home and select road events. The Graduate Assistant collaborates with athletics staff and coaches to deliver strategic, high-quality digital and social media content and assists in the development and execution of sport-specific marketing plans, corporate partnerships, grassroots community outreach initiatives, campus activations, special events, media days, and revenue-generating activities. The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant will serve as communications contact for multiple sports throughout the duration of the 2026-27 and the 2027-28 seasons. Tasks include, but not limited to: strong working knowledge of NCAA Live Stats (Genius) and Statcrew; writing press releases, game notes and feature stories; updating and maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story ideals to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as needed; managing the press box/scorer’s table for home events for assigned sports, including overseeing the game day staff; performing assorted game day duties, such as public address announcing and scoreboard operation, as needed; assist with video production and editing, including recording video segments and game day highlights, feature interviews with student-athletes and coaches; reporting scores and results to the Gulf South Conference and the NCAA; and other duties as assigned. Appointment contingent on candidate being accepted to the VSU Graduate School in the program of the applicant’s choosing.  All graduate assistantships are renewable for two consecutive years (two years total). The 2 nd year appointment is contingent upon successful completion of GA duties and responsibilities which includes maintaining a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of assistantship and maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.  The candidate appointed to the position will receive a yearly stipend in addition to a tuition waiver. An additional summer stipend is available between the candidate's first and second year of employment. This person must be willing and able to work daily office hours, nights, and weekends throughout the academic school year including vacation periods.  Some travel may be required in these positions.  Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license.  Preferred start date: August 3, 2026
