POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dallas Mavericks seek a Design intern to join the Mavericks Creative Studio in communicating the team’s visual brand. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the design team in producing a wide array of digital and print materials that serve the needs of all departments. The intern will develop their ability to communicate and will have the opportunity to provide effective design solutions for advertising, branding, and game presentation graphics. In addition, the design intern will enable the Studio to perform at its peak by managing brand assets, conducting design research and handling urgent needs with a high degree of flexibility.
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:
- June 1 – July 31, 2026
- Mandatory In-Person Internship Development Session. (Once a month)
- Must be able to work up to 29 hours per week (3-4 days/wk.), which may include nights and weekends as needed.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Providing fundamental graphic support to the creative marketing team
- Developing, updating, and managing existing files and marketing materials
- Researching sports design trends and presenting findings
- Aiding with concept development for a variety of advertising and marketing material
- Creating corporate sponsor & ticket sales materials
- Responding to urgent communication needs
- Initiating template ideas for recurring projects
- Assisting in creating various signage, logo design, fan collateral items
- Designing layouts for print, digital, out of home, and apparel
- Communicating with project owners to understand objectives
- Maintaining a high level of creative execution
- Cataloguing team project examples
- Assembling practical step-by-step toolkits and recipes for standard MCS practices
- Meeting with and shadowing fellow Studio teammates
- Connecting with creative peers outside the Studio
- Assisting the MCS project manager as needed
- Supporting the creation of matchup promotions
- Handling multiple design task requests a day with efficiency
- Attending and participating in the weekly MCS team meeting
- Participating in the large group Intern presentation project on a progressive business idea
- Letting your unique voice be heard
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function as well as the following:
- Portfolio should represent a range of design styles and diversity of projects. Candidates will be evaluated on skills and portfolio
- Interested candidates should provide a portfolio link and resume
- Excellent knowledge of Photoshop, a primary tool
- Working knowledge of InDesign and Illustrator
- High level of flexibility to adapt to edit requests and feedback
- Ability to build and prepare files for printing
- Working knowledge of Adobe CC
- Experience in logo design, copy and photo/advertisement layout, photo selection and cutouts
- Ability to proofread copy
- Fundamental understanding of typography
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to visually communicate ideas from concept to execution
- Experience translating creative strategy into direction, design, and presentation
- Passion for sports
- Proficient in basic computer software programs (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
- Positive attitude and willingness to assist others
- Highly motivated with a strong work ethic
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Jr. or 4-year college with a preferred concentration in Visual Communications or related field. (If applying for college credit, you must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar).
