Internship Program Overview:

The San Francisco 49ers offer full-time, paid internships for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in professional sports while exploring careers within the National Football League. Our program is designed to allows participants to contribute directly to the organization’s success while applying the knowledge learned in the classroom.

Interns are embedded within a specific department while also having opportunities to explore the broader organization through group networking events, training sessions, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across the club. Each intern is supported by a mentor and team and contributes to a project that builds skills and professional confidence.

General Internship details and expectations:

  • Our interns are paid $19.00 per hour and are expected to work 30-40 hours or more per week during the internship period. 
  • Interns are expected to commit to the full term of the internship and be mostly onsite (no remote internships are available), which runs from mid-July through the end of February. 
  • Interns are expected to work flexible hours that include nights, holidays, and weekends. 
  • Interns to provide their own housing and transportation

Important dates: 

  • Monday, January 5, 2026 - Applications close 
  • Monday, July 6, 2026 - First day of the internship program
  • Friday, February 26, 2027 - Last day of the internship program

Position Overview:
The 49ers Foundation harnesses football to educate and empower Bay Area youth and beyond through a collective of innovative and community-focused strategies. From award-winning STEAM education and nationally recognized youth football programs to impactful community partnerships with leading non-profits, we are tirelessly dedicated to inspiring the confidence and collaboration our youth need to tackle what is possible.

We are looking for teammates to help us grow the Foundation’s footprint and impact in the Bay Area and beyond. This role is responsible for handling and supporting a variety of detail-oriented, logistical tasks with a focus on event operations, partnership and auction activations, relationship management, and providing support for our charitable programs. The ideal intern candidate will have a team-oriented “can do” attitude, an aptitude for planning and executing daily operational tasks and events, and the ability to deliver high caliber work-product in an efficient and timely manner.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Contributes to the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the 49ers Foundation’s signature and program events.
  • Supports fundraising efforts by helping manage auctions, partner and donor relationships, and gameday activations.Works collaboratively with the 49ers Foundation Operations team, direct-service programs (49ers EDU and 49ers PREP) teams, and cross-functional departments on events, activations, and organizational initiatives.
  • Leads inventory tracking, including memorabilia, giveaways, and game day assets.
  • Provides game day support, including donor hospitality, ticket donation database, check presentations, and other assigned activations.
  • Supports charitable requests by logging and coordinating incoming requests received via phone, email, and mail, ensuring prompt and professional communication.
  • Represents the Foundation alongside staff at community events throughout the Bay Area, with occasional appearances in San Francisco, Oakland, and surrounding counties.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Abilities & Skills:

  • Professionalism in all interactions with fans, corporate partners, 49ers staff members and 49ers players, alumni, executives, coaches, and their families.
  • Punctuality and accountability are essential for all aspects of an intern role.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask, quick decision-making, and comfort with last-minute changes.
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter with proven ability to learn new skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact comfortably with people in all walks of life, is necessary.


Education and Experience:

  • Relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with CRM and event registration and fundraising software preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite including Excel, Canva, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Adobe Spark.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires the employee to work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays.

Travel:

5% of local travel time expected for this position.
