Internship Program Overview:

The San Francisco 49ers offer full-time, paid internships for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in professional sports while exploring careers within the National Football League. Our program is designed to allows participants to contribute directly to the organization’s success while applying the knowledge learned in the classroom.

Interns are embedded within a specific department while also having opportunities to explore the broader organization through group networking events, training sessions, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across the club. Each intern is supported by a mentor and team and contributes to a project that builds skills and professional confidence.

General Internship details and expectations:

  • Our interns are paid $19.00 per hour and are expected to work 30-40 hours or more per week during the internship period. 
  • Interns are expected to commit to the full term of the internship and be mostly onsite (no remote internships are available), which runs from mid-July through the end of February. 
  • Interns are expected to work flexible hours that include nights, holidays, and weekends. 
  • Interns to provide their own housing and transportation

Important dates: 

  • Monday, January 5, 2026 - Applications close 
  • Monday, July 6, 2026 - First day of the internship program
  • Friday, February 26, 2027 - Last day of the internship program

Our internship program is built to develop future leadership talent that reflects our diverse community. The internship program is a paid opportunity that allows participants to contribute to the organization's success while practicing the knowledge and theories learned in the classroom.

While each intern will be working with a specific department, they will be given the opportunity to explore different areas within the organization through group networking events, training, and 1:1 meetings. Our interns also have a committed mentor, a supportive team, and a real-world project to advance their skills and expand their understanding of a career in sports. Our goal is to create "fans for life" at the end of every internship.

Position Summary:
The IT Operations team provides technical support for both the business operations and football operations on a 24/7/365 schedule. This Desktop Support Intern will be working from our main offices at the either The Oval, 4949 or Levi’s Stadium. This intern will be responsible for providing onsite and remote support for all technology equipment used by our staff, and will also have responsibilities such as inventory control, identity access, and maintaining or upgrading equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with supporting the IT operational needs across all departments.
  • Install, configure, test, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related hardware and software to maintain required desktop service level agreements.
  • Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring IT support operations.
  • Maintain inventory of all IT owned systems and applications.
  • Perform moves, additions, and change requests as they are submitted.
  • Lift, move, and maintain computer equipment as necessary.
  • Assist with employee processes, including onboarding and offboarding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Learn from Your Job Responsibilities:

  • Exposure to an operational tech support environment.
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills (traditional workstations and mobile devices).
  • Various operating system with integration into Active Directory.
  • Printers/MFD support behaviors.
  • Elementary network support habits.
  • Computer imaging routines.
  • Network cabling exposure & troubleshooting best practices.
  • Exposure to the business of a professional sports team.

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate or recent graduate within the past 12 months, from a certificate program, university, college or vocational/technical institute.
  • Educational focus or career path efforts in the field of IT Service Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics or another related technical vertical.
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week onsite at our offices, located in Santa Clara, CA.
  • Available to work nontraditional business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn on the job and adapt as priorities shift.
