Internship Program Overview:

The San Francisco 49ers offer full-time, paid internships for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in professional sports while exploring careers within the National Football League. Our program is designed to allows participants to contribute directly to the organization’s success while applying the knowledge learned in the classroom.

Interns are embedded within a specific department while also having opportunities to explore the broader organization through group networking events, training sessions, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across the club. Each intern is supported by a mentor and team and contributes to a project that builds skills and professional confidence.

Our goal is to deliver a positive, impactful experience that inspires “fans for life” and prepares interns for future success in sports and beyond.

General Internship details and expectations:

  • Our interns are paid $19.00 per hour and are expected to work 30-40 hours or more per week during the internship period. 
  • Interns are expected to commit to the full term of the internship and be mostly onsite (no remote internships are available), which runs from mid-July through the end of February. 
  • Interns are expected to work flexible hours that include nights, holidays, and weekends. 
  • Interns to provide their own housing and transportation

Important dates: 

  • Monday, January 5, 2026 - Applications close 
  • Monday, July 6, 2026 - First day of the internship program
  • Friday, February 26, 2027 - Last day of the internship program


Position Overview:

To provide a hard-working, dedicated candidate with an internship opportunity to experience the work environment of the 49ers Social Media Department during a full season.  Upon completion of the internship, it is our hope that the knowledge gained is one that provides great value and experience that will support future career endeavors in the sports industry.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Works directly with the Social Media Manager and team in the creation and distribution of social media content to engage all demographics of fans worldwide.
  • Understands and assists in all aspects of developing social media content including mobile focused video content, managing a content calendar and labeling all outbound content to better assist in reporting.
  • Assists in managing day-to-day social media activity with an emphasis on increasing daily output of content to the 49ers official team channels
  • Assists and executes TikTok content calendar
  • Assists in scheduling and managing 49ers and Levi’s Stadium channels
  • Monitors and engages communication with fans across social channels
  • Tracks and reports digital analytics on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Assists in influencer content on gamedays

Abilities & Skills:

  • Professionalism in all interactions with fans, corporate partners, fellow 49ers staff members and 49ers players, alumni, executives, and coaches.
  • Punctuality and accountability are essential for all aspects of intern role.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task are required.
  • Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to interact comfortably with people in all walks of life is necessary.

Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in the social media landscape and evolving trends
  • Strong storytelling/copywriting/mobile video editing
  • Knowledge of Adobe video editing suite

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires the ability to work extended hours and/or weekends.


Travel:

25% of local travel time expected for the position.
