Explore multiple business functions while rotating through key operational areas of the NCAA national office. This internship provides broad exposure to accounting, financial planning and analysis, human resources, travel, enterprise risk management and internal audit, helping interns build a well-rounded understanding of business operations within collegiate athletics.

Position Summary:
The administrative services rotational intern supports administrative services staff on a rotational basis while gaining hands-on experience across several business functions. Current rotations include enterprise risk management and internal audit; travel and operations; human resources; accounting; and financial planning and analysis. This rotational internship is designed for individuals interested in building a career as a business leader in collegiate athletics.

Essential Duties by Rotation:

Enterprise Risk Management

The postgraduate intern will gain foundational work experience in key enterprise risk management and internal audit processes. Work responsibilities may include:

  • Serve as lead auditor for select NCAA grant audits, which entails completing all phases of internal audit work including planning, fieldwork, wrap-up and follow-up.
  • Assist in execution of the internal audit master audit plan, including support with external business relationship audits of various championships and/or business partners, assessment of internal controls over financial reporting, and performing various continuous audit and data analytic audit test steps.
  • Assist with risk assessments.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting key performance indicators.

Travel and Operations 

  • The postgraduate intern will gain experience in travel, meetings and events, and facility management. The role includes interaction with vendors, contractors, maintenance staff, community stakeholders and national office staff.
  • Gain an understanding of facility maintenance and general operations.
  • Assist with men’s and women’s basketball team travel logistics.
  • Assist travel with special projects, including championship balancing/reconciliations and champs playbook coordination.

Human Resources

The postgraduate intern will gain foundational human resources experience through a rotational assignment focused on key stages of the HR lifecycle, including recruiting and hiring, onboarding, and performance management. The following modules outline the scope of the HR rotation.

  • Recruiting and hiring — Observe, learn and support the full-cycle recruitment process for at least two nonexempt level positions. Provide support throughout the sourcing, screening and offer process.
  • Onboarding — Assist in planning and implementation of learning events (e.g., new employee orientation, DISC sessions, effective feedback).
  • Performance management — Develop a working knowledge of the NCAA performance management process; assist the HR team with developing staff communications and capturing performance management metrics; co-facilitate at least one PM tool training session for new hires.
  • Special projects — Develop a project from start to finish and have the opportunity to present it to staff.

Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis

The postgraduate intern will gain foundational experience in the financial operations department through a variety of tasks, similar to those found in an athletics and conference business offices, including:

  • Assist with financial operations and audits of championships by reviewing and approving host reports for NCAA championship events and concession share reporting.
  • Prepare and/or assist with ad hoc financial and operational analyses, such as championship format or travel changes.
  • Assist with preparation of employee benefit plan financial statements.
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations. 
  • Assist with NCAA Division I and Division II revenue distributions

Analytical nature and comfort working with data.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).

Basic knowledge of accounting, finance and/or audit concepts.

Flexibility and openness to new opportunities as they arise.
