General position summary: Interns will have opportunities to work as individual contributors and collaborate in a team environment. Specifically, interns will serve as case managers working directly with compliance administrators at member schools on interpretations, waivers, and requests. Interns participate fully in assigned team meetings, including collaborating with team members to arrive at interpretation, waiver, and case decisions. Additional opportunities may include committee governance support, student-athlete academic initiatives support, involvement in the legislative process, development of educational resources and special assignments involving technology or department operations. Interns leave with a broad understanding of the NCAA governance structure, rules and legislative process, as well as skills to analyze and decide rules interpretations, waivers and cases.
Responsibilities
Regulatory Affairs
- Process rules interpretations, waivers and requests.
- Assist with case management and appeals.
- Present cases during team meetings.
Legislative Support
- Assist with legislative proposals and publications.
- Support governance committee meetings.
- Develop educational resources for NCAA membership.
Strategic Projects
- Support academic initiatives and department operations.
- Assist with special projects across Governance and Members Services.
- Participate in governance meetings and educational initiatives.
Essential duties:
- Process interpretations, waivers and requests from the NCAA membership.
- Participate and present cases in team meetings and manage appeals of interpretations, waivers and requests. The management of appeals may include presenting cases to the appropriate committee within the governance structure.
- Assist with special projects within governance and member services and the national office.
Additional duties:
- Attend select governance or sport committee meetings and assist with supplement development for committee meetings.Β
- Process academic performance plan improvement plans, adjustments and correction requests and participate in related team meetings and conference calls.
- Provide legislative support through drafting legislative proposals and associated legislative publications (such as question-and-answer documents), including collaboration with conference sponsors.
- Assist with educational initiatives, such as online educational resources, Division I, II or III University, and other educational materials.Β
