Overview:
This 12-month fellowship blends social media, digital marketing, and graphic design into a single, modern marketing role. The fellow will gain end-to-end exposure to content creation, digital advertising, design, and analytics, preparing them for a hybrid marketing career that spans paid, organic, and creative execution. This role also supports Creative Services, ensuring high-quality, revenue-driving work while allowing the team to push creative boundaries. 

In addition to the duties described above, the Fellow will also participate in the Penguins’ exclusive Leadership Development Program. This program will provide regular opportunities for professional development, exposure to organizational leadership, and the ability to develop skills critical for the Fellow’s future career growth. A fundamental part of the program will include clearly defined goals between the Fellow and their Supervisor that will be tracked and measured for progress throughout the term of the program.

Responsibilities:
  • Social Media & Content Creation
    • Create, edit, and publish content across Penguins social channels 
    • Assist with game-night coverage and player/content shoots 
    • Collaborate with partnerships to ideate and execute branded social content 
    • Build and maintain social media calendars, while ideating and creating new content to fill gaps
  • Digital Marketing & Advertising
    • Support the creation and execution of paid digital advertising campaigns 
    • Learn digital strategy focused on performance media and digital advertising that drives strong ROAS, and revenue growth 
    • Assist with website and app content updates as needed
  • Email Marketing & CRM
    • Deploy marketing emails using Eloqua 
    • Learn consumer segments and targeting and assist in campaign planning
  • Creative & Graphic Design 
    • Brainstorm and create digital ad assets and organic social media posts for marketing and content teams
    • Support cross-department design needs including ticketing, partnerships, and Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation
  • Photography & Visual Assets
    • Shoot and edit photography of players, promotional items, and models for marketing use 
    • Upload, tag and manage assets for the organization’s archive
  • Reporting & Analytics
    • Assist in reporting on social, digital advertising, and email performance 
    • Share insights and trends with marketing leadership
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Recent graduate (within the past year) with a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and how to use those tools to communicate to internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro), Canva, or other design/video tools is a plus.
  • Video production experience is encouraged, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media trends, and fan engagement strategies. 
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and email marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge of marketing and analytics tools and the ability to generate reports
  • Passion for hockey and knowledge of the NHL landscape.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support events and campaigns.
  • Detail-oriented, highly motivated, and able to work independently or within a team.
