Overview:
This 12-month marketing fellowship provides hands-on experience coordinating promotions and integrated marketing initiatives. The fellowship will support the marketing department in executing best-in-class promotional events, theme nights, and youth engagement programs while gaining exposure to media planning, mascot management, and cross-department collaboration. This role is designed to develop a well-rounded marketer with a strong understanding of live sports marketing, fan growth strategies, and operational execution.
In addition to the duties described above, the Fellow will also participate in the Penguins’ exclusive Leadership Development Program. This program will provide regular opportunities for professional development, exposure to organizational leadership, and the ability to develop skills critical for the Fellow’s future career growth. A fundamental part of the program will include clearly defined goals between the Fellow and their Supervisor that will be tracked and measured for progress throughout the term of the program.
Responsibilities:
- Promotional Strategy & Execution
- Assist in building and maintaining the season-long promotional schedule
- Coordinate with vendors on the production, delivery, and logistics of gate giveaways and ticket package items
- Support on-site execution of promotional nights and activations
- Theme Nights & Group Sales Support
- Work closely with internal teams to execute group and theme night experiences
- Oversee in-arena activations and ensure seamless fan experience
- Mascot, Kids Club & Fan Programs
- Assist with mascot scheduling and coordination with partnerships, Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and external parties
- Support soon-to-be launched Kids Club logistics, events, and operational needs
- Media & Advertising Coordination
- Collaborate with Creative Services, Game Presentation and regional media partners on linear TV, radio, and in-game advertising
- Traffic creative assets and assist with campaign execution to media partners
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work across departments including partnerships, ticketing, and game presentation to support organizational initiatives
Qualifications & Skills:
- Recent graduate (within the past 1-2 years) with a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and how to use those tools to communicate to internal and external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media trends, and fan engagement strategies.
- Familiarity with CRM tools and email marketing platforms is not required but encouraged.
- Knowledge of marketing and analytics tools and the ability to generate recaps and reports
- Passion for hockey and knowledge of the NHL landscape.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro), Canva, or other design/video tools is a plus.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support events and campaigns.
