JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION:                 Intern, Racquet Sports

FLSA:                         Non-Exempt / Hourly 

DEPARTMENT:          Racquet Sports

REPORTS TO:           Director, Racquet Sports

 

 

SUMMARY: 

The Racquet Sports Intern will support the daily operations of a vibrant resort racquet sports program, including tennis and pickleball instruction, court maintenance, pro shop operations, and racquet services. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a luxury resort setting that features both indoor and outdoor courts, collaborating with a diverse clientele and experienced racquet sports professionals. A minimum number of 32 hours per week are guaranteed, although most weeks should offer 40 hours or more.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

KEY Responsibilities:

  • Provide tennis and pickleball instruction to resort guests and members of all ages and skill levels in a professional and engaging manner on both indoor and outdoor courts.
  • Assist with daily court maintenance including brushing, rolling, watering, and line sweeping on outdoor clay courts.
  • Perform general maintenance duties across indoor and outdoor facilities, including court setup, equipment organization, and event preparation.
  • Operate the front desk of the pro shop: greet guests, schedule court times and lessons, process payments, and answer inquiries.
  • String tennis racquets using provided equipment and techniques (training available).
  • Support the organization and execution of tournaments, clinics, and social events.
  • Ensure the pro shop and surrounding facilities are clean, organized, and welcoming at all times.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service aligned with resort hospitality standards.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Collaborative, responsible, motivated.
    • Comfortable dealing with and offering premium guest and member services
    • Must be able to effectively communicate with directors, managers, members, associates, and guests
    • Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to perform physical tasks related to court and facility maintenance.
    • Previous hospitality or recreation experience preferred.
    • Racquet stringing knowledge is a plus; training provided as needed.
    • Must be dependable, enthusiastic, and adaptable to working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
    • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.


Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

    • Experience and/or strong interest in tennis and/or pickleball instruction.
    • This is a college-level internship and requires college-level racquet sports play.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Racquet sports professional certification(s) such as RSPA (USPTA), PTTL and/or GreatBase.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license upon hire and kept throughout employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move actively for extended periods across both indoor and outdoor courts.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (e.g., bags of clay, sports equipment).
  • Work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, and/or varying shifts.
  • Work is performed in both indoor/outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions when working outdoors.
  • Ability to travel from site to site.  
  • Manual dexterity required for racquet stringing and handling sports gear.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills required.

 

INTERNSHIP LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective teaching techniques for both tennis and pickleball across indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Understand and perform standard maintenance procedures for indoor and outdoor racquet sports facilities, including clay court care.
  • Apply customer service and communication skills in a professional, guest-facing environment.
  • Operate the business functions of a racquet sports facility, including booking systems and retail operations.
  • Gain practical experience with racquet stringing and equipment upkeep.
  • Strengthen leadership, teamwork, and time management skills within a dynamic resort team.
