The Recreation Intern will support the Chaska Parks and Recreation department through a variety of programs and events in our active community. This internship will provide an excellent opportunity for a student studying parks and recreation (or related field) to gain hands-on experience across all areas of programs, events and facility management. This experience will also allow for the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in specialty areas like aquatics, fitness and curling. The Recreation Intern will work as an integral part of a positive and collaborative City of Chaska Parks and Recreation team.
**The intended hiring wage for this position is $18.30/hr.**
Responsibilities
Programs & Events: Assist in the planning, promoting and executing recreational programs, events and activities for people of all ages and abilities. Concert Series/Community Market: Serve as the point of contact for vendors, artists, and volunteers for the Thursday evening concert series and community market. Facility Reservations: Process and track picnic shelter reservations and communicate with patrons before, during and after reservations to ensure a positive customer experience. Extreme Kids Summer Camp: Support elementary-aged kids in our summer childcare program and participate in weekly activities. Customer Service: Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, communicating information and ensuring a positive experience that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Marketing & Social Media: Collaborate with team members on social media content, marketing and outreach to drive community engagement. Professional Development: Experience and gain knowledge in a broad range of Parks and Recreation services, such as facility operations, aquatics, fitness and curling. Other: Perform all other related duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Enrollment in (or recent completion of) a degree program (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Recreation or other related field Experience in recreation services, youth programming, customer service, and/or marketing preferred
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work independently and follow deadlines Effective communication skills Ability to provide top-notch customer service to people of all ages and abilities Strong problem-solving abilities and techniques Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between program sites as needed American Red Cross CPR Certification or willingness to complete certification within 30 days of hire Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity
