Brooks Internship Program: Brooks Running hosts summer internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will join a cohort of interns at Brooks and embark on a summer of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.   

Details: Duration: 3 months Dates: Start dates will align for both quarter and semester students. May/June - August/September 2026
Location: Seattle, HQ Schedule: 40 hours / week

 This Opportunity: The mission of the Run Research Team is to create and leverage novel, scientific concepts and runner-driven product performance insights to create amazing products to help everyone to run their path. Our Run Research Team is seeking an undergraduate intern to work at our Seattle HQ offices. As the Run Research Data Science Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in product research at the leading running brand – Brooks Sports, Inc. Your primary responsibilities will be to assist in the maintenance and enhancement of our runner data pipelines that are used to inform product creation. This information is critical for our multi-departmental infrastructure, including Innovation, Development, and Design, to ensure that performance integrity of our products meets the needs of our end customers. You will also gain knowledge on how a variety of human performance and runner behavior data influences the design and development of athletic products at Brooks.

Your Impact (Responsibilities):

  • Understand quantitative and qualitative human subject data pipelines and how they inform product creation and model a holistic view of the runner.
  • Receive mentorship from senior teammates to understand their roles and impact to the broader department and business.
  • Gain experience in product research analysis by gathering and synthesizing data to inform product decisions.
  • Write code to maintain our self-service pipelines for data sources used by the Run Research Team in Python and SQL and build data visualization tools.
  • Assist in the organization, cleaning, and optimization of data preparation at scale from a variety of data sources for further analysis.
  • Use your analytical modeling skills to conduct research that leads to optimized products and experiences for all who run.
  • Create and update relevant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) for designated projects or processes.
  • Meet with members of Enterprise Data & Analytics, Run Research, and other Footwear teams to understand their roles, areas of responsibility, and current project focuses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Project:

  • As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks at the end of your internship, to hone in on your research, recommendation, and presentation skills.  

 A high-level project outline for this internship opportunity is as follows: 

  • Use our runner data platform to research human performance and runner behaviors. The goal is to identify any insights that can be used to inform the fit, feel, ride, or biomechanical performance of our product or provide an optimized product/experience for the runner. This will include analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data. The methods and results of the research will be shared in a final presentation to the Run Research Team and other.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, data science, or a related engineering field
  • Willing to commit to the intern position for three months onsite in Seattle, WA
  • Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience
  • Able to commit up to 40 hours a week to be physically present at HQ
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Well-developed data management and analytical modeling skills with an aptitude for working with quantitative and qualitative human subject data
  • Hands-on experience with writing code (Python, SQL, MATLAB, etc.) and creating data visualizations (Streamlit, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, running biomechanics, running performance, and injury prevention is ideal.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products. Always looking to improve our products and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details and help wherever necessary.
