Job Summary
The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a Sports Reporter Intern who is passionate about covering sports stories across the Philadelphia region.
This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.
What You’ll Do
- Be at the center of the sports conversation, helping shape coverage that reflects what audiences are thinking and talking about in real time
- Report quickly and accurately on breaking news, games, and trending sports topics
- Identify meaningful storylines beyond the headlines and develop compelling narratives on deadline
- Cover a range of sports topics, from daily coverage to deeper enterprise stories
- Focus on both the Philadelphia sports scene and relevant national trends
- Stay curious and proactive in pitching story ideas and angles
- Collaborate with reporters, editors, and other members of the sports team
- Experiment with different storytelling formats, including digital and social platforms
- Complete a final capstone project summarizing your experience and key takeaways
Who We’re Looking For
- Must be attending an accredited college or university
- Rising juniors or seniors studying journalism, communications, or a related field, as well as recent graduates and current graduate students
- Experience working for a college news outlet; prior professional internship experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of digital media platforms and audience engagement
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and journalistic ethics
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Willingness to learn new tools, formats, and reporting techniques
- A strong sense of curiosity and interest in sports, culture, and community impact
- Commitment to contributing to an inclusive and collaborative newsroom environment
- Willingness and ability to travel locally; access to a car is a plus but not required
