Advertising Summary: Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Support Services, the Student-Athlete Academic Support Intern will assist with all aspects of the student-athlete support services program. Working closely with the Student-Athlete Support Services Staff, the Student-Athlete Academic Support Intern will assist in the daily operations related to student-athlete academic advising, the student-athlete tutoring and academic coaching programs, and the student-athlete development program. This position requires evening and weekend hours.

Duties & Responsibilities:
50% Student-Athlete Academic Support
Essential
- Assist with the comprehensive academic support program to a caseload of student-athletes.
- Meet individually with assigned student-athletes to help them develop learning strategies, goal setting, and time management skills;
- Work with student-athletes on major choice and career planning, utilizing major maps and other resources;
- Assist SASS staff in monitoring student-athletes continuing eligibility;
- Create, manage, and submit weekly academic reports and updates;
- Maintain accurate and detailed written documentation for each student-athlete on their caseload at VCU as required by the NCAA;
- Assist with the supervision of the mandatory Study Hall program;
- Assist with the daily operations of the Athletic Tutoring program, including training, scheduling, and compiling comprehensive reports;
- Assist the Academic Coach with programming and individualized support for their caseload of student-athletes
45% Administrative Duties
Essential
- Assist SASS Staff by providing administrative support for the day-to-day operations.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of student-athlete development programs and academic events;
- Maintain confidential records, and adhere to FERPA guidelines and all departmental confidentiality policies;
- All duties and responsibilities must be completed in compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations;
- Some work assignments and event participation will require weekend and evening hours;
5% Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
- General knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; and
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree or progress towards a Master’s Degree
- Personal student-athlete collegiate experience;
- Multilingual skills; and
- Experience working with student-athletes at a large, urban, NCAA Division l university.
Salary Range: $21.00/hour
