Knoxville, Tennessee, Tennessee Tailored at the Thornton Center has multiple Internship positions open for the 2026-27 academic year. These positions are part of the Young Professional Development Program that prepares young professionals for full-time positions in athletic academic support.

Open Positions:

Student-Athlete Development
Assistant Coordinator:

Assistant Coordinators in Student-Athlete Development play a key role in the development and implementation of leadership, career, and personal development programming designed to prepare student-athletes for success beyond their academic and playing careers. 

In this position, individuals will gain experience planning and executing professional development events, coordinating financial literacy education and micro-internship opportunities, and providing guidance to student-athletes in both group and one-on-one settings. 

Assistant Coordinators communicate effectively and collaborate with Tennessee Tailored staff, campus departments, faculty, and external partners to enhance student-athlete development and support the overall mission of Tennessee Tailored.

Student Services
Assistant Learning Specialist:

Assistant Learning Specialists work with student-athletes in a 1-on-1 setting to develop key cognitive and academic skills for long-term success. 

In this position, individuals will gain experience administering our educational screener (ADVANCE), implement instructional strategies with student-athletes in a 1-on-1 or small group setting, track academic progress, and help lead our tutor and mentor programs. 

Assistant Learning Specialists communicate effectively and collaborate with Tennessee Tailored staff, Student Disability Services (SDS), and other campus partners on the best strategies to support student-athlete success.

About Us:

Tennessee Tailored is a comprehensive and customizable menu of academic and student-athlete development programs and services to support Vol and Lady Vol student-athletes across all sports. Tennessee Tailored houses 21 full-time staff within three distinct and highly aligned units: Academic Services, Student Services, and Student-Athlete Development.

Academic Services staff include Academic Counselors who lead all phases of academic planning, monitoring, and intervention in accordance with University, SEC, and NCAA guidelines, from recruitment to graduation.

Student Services staff include Learning Specialists and part-time Academic Mentors/Tutors, who work collectively to manage academic risk through in-depth and on-going assessment, evaluation, and support for first-year students and identified caseloads.

Student-Athlete Development staff guide student-athletes through an array of programs and services in the areas of Career Development, Leadership Development, Personal Enhancement, and Community Engagement.
