ABOUT US
The Staten Island FerryHawks are dedicated to creating a vibrant, fan-first experience on and off the field. Competing in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an MLB Partner League, we play our home games at SIUH Community Park on the St. George waterfront, combining competitive professional baseball with year-round community entertainment. Our internship program gives students hands-on, educational experience alongside and under the supervision of the staff who run a professional sports organization, in their chosen area of study.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Baseball Operations Video Intern gains an inside look at how video supports a professional baseball operations department. Under the supervision of the baseball operations staff, the intern learns how video is captured, organized, and used for player development and advance scouting, experience you can only get inside a pro team.
WHAT THE INTERN WILL EXPERIENCE AND LEARN
Under the supervision of the staff member they report to, and as part of their training, the intern will gain hands-on experience with and exposure to the following. Staff lead the work; interns learn by observing and assisting.
- Learn how games are tagged and organized using professional video tools.
- See how cameras are set up and how video is captured during home games.
- Gain exposure to how video is used for player development and advance scouting.
- Observe how coaches and analysts use video to prepare.
- Learn how non-game video such as bullpens and batting practice is captured.
- Experience how a baseball operations video workflow runs across a season.
ELIGIBILITY
- Strong interest in baseball operations, amateur scouting, player development, or baseball analytics, and able to earn academic credit through their school.
- Comfortable with computers (Windows and Mac).
- Experience with baseball technology, or playing or coaching experience, a plus.
- Must bring your own laptop computer.
- Written confirmation of eligibility for credits from current school.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- A behind-the-scenes look at a pro baseball operations department.
- Exposure to pro-level video and player-development technology.
- An understanding of the advance scouting workflow.
- Mentorship from coaches and analysts in professional baseball.
COMPENSATION & ACADEMIC CREDIT
This is an unpaid internship, offered for academic credit only, in conjunction with the student's school and in accordance with that school's requirements for earning credit. It is an educational training experience, not employment. The intern is not an employee for minimum wage or overtime purposes, is not guaranteed a job at the end of the internship, is free to pursue other opportunities in the field, and receives no employee benefits. The student arranges credit through their college or university, and the FerryHawks coordinate with the school and provide the documentation and supervisor sign-off the school requires.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
