ABOUT US
The Staten Island FerryHawks are dedicated to creating a vibrant, fan-first experience on and off the field. Competing in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an MLB Partner League, we play our home games at SIUH Community Park on the St. George waterfront, combining competitive professional baseball with year-round community entertainment. Our internship program gives students hands-on, educational experience alongside and under the supervision of the staff who run a professional sports organization, in their chosen area of study.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Finance Intern gains an inside look at the financial operations of a professional sports organization. Under staff supervision, the intern learns how a club handles its accounting, reporting, and settlements, hands-on finance experience in a real business. This is primarily an office-based role.
GAME-DAY COMMITMENT
This is primarily an office-based role, with most of the experience during standard weekday business hours. Occasional game-day or event exposure may be offered; home game dates and times are listed on the current schedule, available as a PDF on the FerryHawks website (ferryhawks.com). When game-day attendance is offered, call time is a minimum of 4.5 hours before first pitch. Interns must be available for July 4th.

WHAT THE INTERN WILL EXPERIENCE AND LEARN

Under the supervision of the staff member they report to, and as part of their training, the intern will gain hands-on experience with and exposure to the following. Staff lead the work; interns learn by observing and assisting.
  • Learn how accounts payable and receivable are handled.
  • See how daily sales, settlements, and deposits are reconciled.
  • Gain exposure to budgeting, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Observe how accurate financial records are maintained.
  • Learn how ticketing, concessions, and merchandise numbers are reviewed.
  • Experience how a professional sports front office runs its finances.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Currently enrolled student pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, and able to earn academic credit through their school.
  • Comfortable with Excel and working with numbers.
  • Detail-oriented and trustworthy with confidential information.
  • Written confirmation of eligibility for credits from current school.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • A look at sports finance and accounting.
  • Exposure to settlements, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Practical Excel and record-keeping familiarity.
  • Networking within a professional front office.

COMPENSATION & ACADEMIC CREDIT

This is an unpaid internship, offered for academic credit only, in conjunction with the student's school and in accordance with that school's requirements for earning credit. It is an educational training experience, not employment. The intern is not an employee for minimum wage or overtime purposes, is not guaranteed a job at the end of the internship, is free to pursue other opportunities in the field, and receives no employee benefits. The student arranges credit through their college or university, and the FerryHawks coordinate with the school and provide the documentation and supervisor sign-off the school requires.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
