The Tampa Bay Rays Communications team manages business communications, external affairs and community relations as they relate to strategic planning and the development of business and stakeholder engagement opportunities for the Rays and Rowdies organizations. The department seeks full-time interns for the 2026 season to support these activities in a wide-ranging role.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Work closely with all arms of the Communications department to write draft copy for various communications projects, including, for example, press releases, social media posts, email correspondence and invitations, marketing and in-ballpark messaging, and internal and external communications
Support the media relations team in planning and execution of media events, alerts, announcements and all storytelling goals
Assist with ideation, development and implementation of activities and celebrations on special event dates, such as Opening Day, Jackie Robinson Day, Pride Night, the Black Legacy Game and Roberto Clemente Day
Manage event invitations to include: contact list management, development of invitation graphics, communication of event logistics, and delivery of tickets and parking passes to guests
Maintain database of civic, government, media, business and community contacts, including regular updating of titles, offices and contact information
Assist in scripting, editing, recording and producing an internal news video program
Assist with coordination of game-day activities and other special events as needed (i.e. military, stakeholder and community champion recognitions; civic events; Fan Fest; Rowdies themed games and events; external partner events)
Various research, reports and presentations, including use of media monitoring software, fan surveys, focus groups and industry best practices
Monitor general department email inboxes, responding to queries quickly, accurately and professionally
Assist with planning and coordination of event sponsorship assets with community and public affairs partners
Maintain inventory of gift and premium items; field, fulfill requests and arrange receipt of these items
Assist with document collection and organization for the Rays and Rowdies news archive
Assist with implementation and ongoing evaluation of MLB Ballpark app programs and technological initiatives, including mobile tickets, mobile concessions ordering, in-app payments and Go-Ahead Entry for the 2026 season
Collaborate with various departments on projects, as needed
Qualifications:
4-years degree or pursuit toward degree
Excellent communication and writing skills, including a mastery of grammar and AP Style
Experience and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of products
Strong work ethic and a dedication to accuracy
Ability to identify challenges and take initiative to overcome them
Ability to work independently and collaborate with teammates
Strong organizational skills
Relevant experience favored
