University of Minnesota Duluth Track & Field Cross Country Intern

About the Job

The University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking a Track & Field and Cross Country Assistant. Prior coaching experience is preferred. This is a coaching intern position. Housing, meals and benefits are not included.

The assistant coach will provide support to the head coaches in maintaining a highly competitive and successful athletic program developed in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Aid coaches in all aspects of developing and maintaining a competitive intercollegiate sport program within the NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
• Aid coaches in compiling and editing materials appropriate to the sport.
• Instruct and teach student athletes in the fundamentals of sport technique and strategy. Plan and execute practice and competition plans specific to the sprints and hurdles.
• Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in budget planning and management, scheduling of competitions and planning and executing team travel.
• Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student athletes to help them achieve full potential.
• Aid coaches in evaluating and recruiting qualified student athletes to UMD and the organization of recruiting events including on-campus official and unofficial recruiting visits.
• Assist coaches with operation of youth camps. Including registrations, scheduling and instruction.
• Provide opportunities for student athletes to develop life and leadership skills.
• Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University, our Conference affiliations and the NCAA.
• Support the UMD athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition
• Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• A minimum of two years playing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• One year minimum experience coaching at the high school, collegiate or professional level
• Commitment to athletic excellence in an academic environment
• Demonstrated ability to communicate both written and verbally
