Kansas City Athletics is the Division I athletics department of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and stands alone as the only Division I institution in the Kansas City metro. This is an exciting time to join the Roos’ elevation with a Top-25 men’s soccer team, the hiring of Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Turgeon, Women’s Basketball Head Coach Candi Whitaker and plenty of other thrilling announcements on the horizon. The Roos are a full member of The Summit League in all 14 athletic programs.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

The Sports Information Graduate Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to serve as the main media contact for the Roos’ women’s basketball program, as well as two other sports to be assigned. They will be responsible for the communication and promotion of those sports, including press releases, game notes, recaps, game day social media, website maintenance and more. The graduate assistant will also be a regular contributor to Kansas City’s newly founded OnSI website.  

 

COMPENSATION:  

Nine hours of graduate school tuition per semester plus a stipend of $2,300/month for nine months. Optional tuition for summer classes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, public relations, sports management or a related field.  
  • Experience in sports writing and coverage.  
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Acceptance into one of UMKC’s graduate programs.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Prior experience working within a collegiate athletics department.  
  • Understanding of social media and content creation.  
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs, NCAA LiveStats and SIDEARM Sports web management.  
  • Previous experience in photography and videography.  
  • Proven ability in storytelling and communication strategies.
