Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for an Athletics Intern. Reporting to the associate director and event manager, the intern is part of an interscholastic athletics program that includes 26 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The intern is responsible for supporting the activities of all teams as well as assisting with facility and equipment needs. This is a stipend-eligible position beginning late August 2025 and continuing through the end of May 2026.
Responsibilities The ideal candidate will join a diverse team of colleagues who are energetic, creative, collaborative, and constantly exploring new ways to effectively serve student-athletes, their families, and coaches.
Support the office when hosting events. This includes, but is not limited to, set-up and tear-down; work at the scorer’s table; event supervision.
Commitment to providing supports, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation as athletes.
Be a gym manager for home, indoor events (volleyball, basketball, wrestling).
Catalogue and manage communications about captains.
Supervise some Middle School competitions during the weekend (additional stipend).
Provide data input to support schedules and rosters.
Re-align and update the trophy case.
Work special events like senior days and community-wide athletics events.
Support of parent/guardian association projects.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics and Event Manager.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be eager to continue learning about topics of equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice, and championing that work ensuring that the athletics department is striving to align with the school’s mission statement.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Demonstrated technological proficiency (PC/Windows platform, Microsoft Office, Adobe suite and athletics-specific databases).
Enthusiasm for the role of education-based athletics.
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. Candidates will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently on long-term projects.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Satisfactorily complete at least two criminal background checks.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience working in athletics.
If not already certified, the person hired must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications immediately.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms and carry office related supplies and equipment.
Walk from Upper School to Middle School campus (about 3 long blocks away).
Move around on multiple surfaces including sports fields and courts, sometimes for extended periods of time.
Lift up to 25 pounds overhead.
Lift and set up furniture (chairs/tables) and sports equipment.
Standing/sitting for long period of time during event days which exceed eight hours.
Potential exposure to dust.
Exposure to outside weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind and fog.
