Interns identify, document and catalog the museum's collection of artifacts. The collection is very comprehensive and covers all aspects of the game of bowling, from ancient Egypt to the modern professional game.
The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame collects, preserves and researches bowlingโs history, provides a suitable home for bowlingโs major halls of fame, and makes the museumโs information and collection available to interested parties globally for education, promotion and entertainment while promoting the sport and industry to as many people as possible, thus providing value and visibility to its industry. The curatorial department at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame consists of three major areas: exhibits, three-dimensional collections and library and archival collections. The curatorโs purpose is to collect, interpret, preserve and make available materials relating to the history of bowling at all levels.
An internship at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the administration of history to gain valuable, hands-on experience in museum collections management, preservation, exhibit design/implementation and historical scholarship. The internship program is project-oriented and designed to coincide with student interests and professional goals. Working with a professional curator, interns receive one-on-one attention in their chosen field. Internships are available for fall, spring and summer semesters in Museum Collections Management, Exhibitions and Research, Photography and Film & Video Archives Management, Library Management, and Archival Management.
It is also possible for an intern who desires to gain experience in more than one area of historical administration to complete an internship consisting of multiple projects in different areas within the curatorial department. The museum asks a commitment of at least 100 hours. Hours are flexible within a Monday to Friday schedule. The number of internships available varies depending on the availability of projects and are unpaid.
