Description:
The Madison Capitols are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Media & Communications Intern to assist the Director of Media Relations on game nights. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sports media relations, communications, and game night operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sports, possess strong communication skills, and be eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • The ability to attend all Capitols home games during the 2025-26 season. This will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with hockey and the flow of the game.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) is a plus.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to actively engage and interact with fans.
  • Strong personal and communication skills.
  • Candidates must possess a proactive, service-oriented mentality that will assist every department with its respective needs.
  • The ability to work pro-actively and independently and possess a can-do attitude.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and adapt in a fun, fast-paced environment.
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to accept all tasks assigned and the ability to learn quickly.
  • The understanding that working in sports is different than being a fan. This position does not guarantee candidates will be able to watch games. Many valuable positions within the organization are behind the scenes, and they provide little ability to watch the games.
  • *This internship is unpaid and is meant for students that will receive school credit and/or look to build upon their resumes.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of content for the team's website, social media channels, and other platforms.
  • Help with the production of game recaps, player features, and other written content as needed.
  • Assist with live game updates on the teamโ€™s social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Support the Director of Media Relations with game night media operations.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of media materials, including game programs, press releases, and newsletters.

The Team:
The Madison Capitols, members of the United States Hockey League (USHL), are coming off of a record breaking season on the ice. Off the ice, the Capitols had their highest average attendance since the team's first season back in 2014-15.
