The two-time Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins, primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, announce an opening for a Public Relations Writing Intern. The internship starts in October 2025 and lasts until the conclusion of the 2025-26 American Hockey League season (April-June 2026, depending on playoffs).
 
This internship is intended to help prepare the individual for employment with a professional sports team. Reports To:
·                   Vice President of Communications
·                   Public Relations Manager
 
Responsibilities:
·                  Road Games: Oversee and handle in-game and post-game media relations responsibilities for 36 regular-season games from residence, including watching the live stream on AHLTV.com; writing a game recap that is posted to griffinshockey.com and emailed to media outlets; creating multimedia content/links; and updating griffinshockey.com and social media sites.
·                  Home Games: Much as above, but while attending 36 games in person at Van Andel Arena (which includes additional responsibilities such as press box setup, distribution of media credentials, and assisting PR staff in the press box); 
·                  Other duties and special projects as assigned.
 
Qualifications: 
·                  Recent college graduate, senior/junior-year undergraduate student, or post-graduate student, majoring in communications, sport management, journalism, public relations, or related field;
·                  Availability to work 36 road games from residence (approx. 5 hours per game) plus 36 home games at Van Andel Arena (approx. 8 hours per game), primarily on nights and weekends and including holidays, plus playoffs;
·                  Experience writing published game recaps for a sports team;
·                  Possess own computer with reliable internet access;
·                  Astute knowledge of and interest in hockey;
·                  Excellent written and oral communication skills, including working knowledge of and adherence to AP style;
·                  Intense desire to progress professionally within the sports PR or sports media industry;
·                  Creativity, exacting attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines;
·                  Computer proficiency, including website and social media management;
·                  Self-starting, highly motivated individual with exceptional work ethic, unquestioned dependability, and proven success at working independently;
·                  Personal, professional demeanor.
 
Compensation: 
·                  Hourly wage;
·                  Home game-night parking, meals and complimentary tickets;
·                  School credit (if applicable).
